Basics
Panasonic is a company that takes its responsibilities as a European and
Global Citizen very seriously and foremost amongst these is a duty to protect the environment.
Introduction
Panasonic actively promotes diverse environmental initiatives and
harmonious co-existence with the global environment in all its business practices. In particular
Panasonic emphasizes developing eco-friendly products, reducing the environmental impact from
manufacturing and establishing recycling systems.
Environmentally friendly factories
Panasonic has taken positive steps in Europe and elsewhere to build
and equip factories which will have a minimal effect upon the environment. Initiatives include
stringent filtration measures for waste water which go far beyond regulatory standards, strict
control of exhaust gases andemissions, and careful operational controls to keep energy consumption
to a minimum.
Green Products
Due to Panasonic's wide range of products from household electric
appliances to parts, devices, and industrial machinery, we exert influences on the environment in
numerous ways. Since we started the development of our Green Products Plan in 1997, we have worked
to minimize the input of energy and resources and the output of waste and emissions throughout the
products' life cycles.
Panasonic is committed to reducing the impact of all its operations on the environment. For example, the GSM mobile phone plant was the first MEI company to receive the ISO14001 environmental accreditation, due to their PCB recycling initiatives, reduction of chemicals for manu-facturing and usage of recycled paper pulp for packaging. Our VCR's incorporate printed circuit boards that are manufactured using lead-free soldering. The materials used in the body of our T[tau] TV and some sections of it's PCBs and wiring are free of halogen compounds, which are environmentally dangerous.
