14.01.2005Matsushita (Panasonic) Boosts Its 60 Million Yen Tsunami Relief with an Employee Matching Gift Campaign
Osaka, Japan - Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., best known for its Panasonic brand products, today announced a special employee matching gift campaign to boost its support for tsunami relief.The Matsushita Group companies in Japan and Asia has pledged a total of approximately 60 million yen in cash and in-kind through aid organizations as of January 7. In response to President Kunio Nakamura' s call for the continuing support made at the January 11 annual management policy meeting, which was telecast to about 230 business locations worldwide, Matsushita Group companies and Matsushita Workers Union decided on the global-level matching gift program, hoping to raise 100 million yen in total (about US$ 1 million) in addition to the contributions already pledged. The fund will be donated to affected countries through the UNICEF offices in Asia.
The company will match contributions made by approximately 290,000 employees of the Matsushita Group around the world, up to a corporate contribution of 50 million yen. The program starts mid January with the final funds donated in February.
The Matsushita Group and its employees feel great compassion for those affected by the tsunami devastation and sincerely hope for swift recovery for peoples and countries affected by the disaster.
