DVD-RAM/DVD-Burner FAQ
FAQ Answer
Is a cartridge necessary for DVD-RAM media?
No. Media is available in both removable and non-removable cartridges. Similar to cartridges used in other optical technology, the cartridge is designed to protect mission-critical data when the media is removed from the drive for storage or shipment. In many ways, the opening cartridge can be thought of in the same manner as a CD jewel case; for media/data protection, storage, archiving or shipment. If the user accesses the information on the single-sided media using a DVD-ROM drive or DVD player, the media can be removed from the cartridge.
