Notable among problems causing scrap, rework, and defects are the loading of wrong component reels, use of outdated setup sheets, running of wrong production programs, and failure to properly maintain feeders. Equipment is under utilized due to unbalanced build times between machines, long changeover times, time required to perform parts exhaust, and lack of preventative maintenance leading to extended downtime. Process throughput can be diminished in a number of ways, chief among them: excessive X-Y feeder movement, part rejects and pickup errors, programming errors, and -- again -- lack of preventative maintenance. CIM Software packages must address these issues head-on to provide tangible benefits for the electronics OEM and contract manufacturer.

A Windows NT or Windows 2000 Solution

PanaPRO is anchored by the powerful and easy-to-use PanaPRO/IPO. This Interactive Process Optimization product provides automatic program generation and optimization from CAD data. Intuitive, graphical modification of the results of automatic operations is available at all stages of the optimization process. (Optimized programs generated by PanaPRO/IPO can also be directly accessed by PanaCIM.)PanaPRO/DSM calculates feeder setup changes for a list of products to minimize changeover time and total production time by evaluating current feeder setup, changes in process, and future production schedules. PanaPRO/Host provides the ability to transfer the product data generated by IPO to and from the production equipment; it also enhances process and quality control through its powerful bundled SPC charting capabilities. PanaPRO/CVT/FCS/IPC provide feeder carriage setup verification by using either barcode scanning or the Intelligent Parts Cassette firmware/feeder, and PanaPRO/DOC provides "Paperless Factory Operation" to simplify documentation and support ISO 9000 standards on the factory floor.

A LINUX or UNIX Solution

PanaCIM products can be combined as needed to meet the specific needs of production. Products may be added as production requirements change. PanaCIM/PDM provides the transfer of product data generated by PanaPRO to and from production equipment, auto width controllers, and CVT scanners.

PanaCIM/SPC provides a comprehensive charting tool for display of user defined process metrics evaluated automatically as additional process data is obtained from the equipment. The format and control of these charts are fully user configurable.PanaCIM/CVT and PanaCIM/FCS provide feeder carriage setup and exhaust verification by using a lightweight barcode scanning system. The feeder carriage is locked out until correct feeder scans are performed. PanaCIM/LM provides three levels of automated line changeover, including detection of product change, automatic product data download, and automatic selection width adjust and equipment start. PanaCIM/FMS provides tracking of feeders within the factory and warns of feeders requiring maintenance; and PanaCIM/CMS tracks component reels and trays within the factory, while estimating the current quantity of components remaining on each reel.
